Fomitopsis

Fomitopsis are usually found on dead or dying trees. They are commonly referred to as “conks” because of their tough, woody texture. The fruiting body is evidence of decaying wood beneath the bark. These fungi play an important role in recycling dying plant material and returning nutrients to the forest soil.
