Check for the Western Trillium (Trillium ovatum) in early to late spring, emerging through the leaf litter on the shady forest floor. The blossoms are initially white, eventually fading to deep rose. These flowers have three leaves in a whorl, three sepals, and three petals–hence the name Trillium, which comes from the Latin word for “three.”
