Watchman Peak

Watchman Peak rises 600 feet above Crater Lake’s rim. It represents the remnant of a volcano existing when Mt Mazama erupted. Looking up at Watchman from Wizard Island, one can see a seam of darker andesitic rock cutting through layers of embedded ash and talus. In 1932, a two-story stone and log blockhouse was built at the summit. It once functioned as a fire lookout and is now a popular hiking destination, accessible from a .75-mile trail, four miles north of Rim Village.
