Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna) is native to the Pacific Coast. Characterized by their iridescent green feathers, adult males have an iridesceont crimson-red crown and throat, while females have a green crown and grey throat with some red markings. They feed on nectar from flowers and insects caught in flight. During mating season, males perform a spectacular dive, ascending 100 feet and then diving at over 50 mph, producing a loud chirping sound.
