Nepenthenes
$695.00
The tropical pitcher plant Nepenthes captures prey using a globe or tube-shaped pitcher at the end of a tendril that extends from the tip of the leaf. Insects are attracted to the colorful and slippery lip of the pitcher and fall into a viscous fluid, drowning the prey. Glands in the lower part of the trap absorb the nutrients. The shape, size, and color of the pitcher varies between species; some are large enough to capture and consume small vertebrates such as frogs, birds, and rodents. Nepenthes is mostly found in acidic, nutrient poor soils of the Malay Archipelago.
