Sarracenia Print

$45.00

The tubular, pitcher-shaped leaves of the North American Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia) have fragrant, nectar-filled veins along their length and a sticky, slippery surface. Insects attracted to the nectar enter the tube and fall into the base of the leaf, where digestive enzymes dissolve the prey. A hood extending over the tube guides prey to the entrance and prevents rain from flooding the tube. Sarracenia are found in acidic wetlands in the Southeast United States.
