Venus Flytrap
$695.00
The leaves of the Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) have two hinged lobes edged with small bristles. The lobes’ color and fragrant nectar lure insects to contact trigger hairs inside the lobes. The lobes then snap shut and the bristles interlock, trapping the insect. The insect’s struggle signals the plant to secrete digestive enzymes, consuming its prey within 3-5 days. The trap only shuts when the trigger hairs are touched multiple times, a safeguard against trapping objects with no nutritional value. The Venus Flytrap is native to nutrient poor acidic wetlands of North and South Carolina.
