Windblown and twisted whitebark pines are scattered around Crater Lake's rim. They depend upon the Clark’s Nutcracker to open its cones and disperse its seeds. White pine blister rust disease, the mountain pine beetle, and infrequent catastrophic fire also affect the whitebark pine’s survival.
